During the first quarter of 2026, BHM Carrollton OpCo, Inc. emerged as the largest nursing home in Carroll County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 159 beds—53 more than the county average for that period—and served an average of 96.8 residents during the quarter.

According to CMS, BHM Carrollton OpCo, Inc. received an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which falls below the Georgia nursing home average of 2.7.

In the same quarter, BHM Pine Knoll OpCo, Inc. was the county’s second largest nursing facility with 122 beds, while Carrollton Manor, Incorporated was third with 100 beds.

As of the end of the quarter, BHM Carrollton OpCo, Inc. had incurred one fine totaling $3,728 and was subject to one penalty.

Carroll County, Georgia, had four for-profit nursing homes in total.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate continued growth in the nation’s older adult population, as the share of younger people declines. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while those under 18 fell by 1.7%. In the last century, the number of older adults in the U.S. surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report finds that nearly half of this age group—roughly 28 million people—may need long-term services and supports, and more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
