FOIA Request to University of West Georgia Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, NC Georgia News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of West Georgia. This request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

The specific records requested under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. include:

1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If student names are protected, we have asked for the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. Information on scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

3. A list of recipients for any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already covered in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of NC Georgia News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency in government actions through the use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We believe access to these public records is essential for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to our readers. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news, we have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information to the public.
