Local Couple's Journey with Cancer Leads to Transformational Gift
Tony and Teresa Funari, Braselton residents are giving back to that community with a gift to Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) to support cancer services so others can receive the life-saving treatment and care as they did while fighting cancer. Tony was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000. It was a battle he never saw himself having, but looking back, it was a battle he’s thankful for and one he couldn’t have gotten through without friends, family and his community. Teresa’s battle with breast cancer was different, but just as impactful on her life.

Press Release Public Notice Of Property Tax Increase And Five Year History Of Levy
The City of Grantville has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 5.86%. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Glanton Municipal Complex, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. and on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.

Swann-Ryder Endowment Enables Continued Growth for UWG’s Ingram Library
The University of West Georgia’s Ingram Library is home to rare and valuable materials, many of which can’t be found anywhere else. Within the Special Collections archives is a human consciousness collection where researchers can find information in parapsychology, paranormal phenomenon and psychic phenomenon.

Piedmont Leases Space for New Medical Offices Near Piedmont Newton Hospital
Piedmont has leased 25,000-square-feet of space in the Shoppes at Martin’s Crossing, about one mile from the Piedmont Newton Hospital campus, for medical offices. The shopping center will be renamed Eastside Crossing and is adjacent to the popular Eastside Trail. Renovations are slated for completion in early 2023.

New Care Center Will Help Patients Get More Seamless Care and Back Home Faster
Patients will now experience a more streamlined and organized hospital stay thanks to a new Care Traffic Control Center at Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS). The new control center will help keep patients steadily progressing through the stages of care at all four NGHS hospitals, ensuring patients get the right care at the right time – and get back home as soon as it’s medically safe.

If students can’t get to the coast, UGA brings the coast to them
Since February, the marine education staff has presented the programs to more than 1,000 students in 12 public schoolsFor more than 50 years, educators at the University of Georgia’s Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidaway Island have hosted pre-K to 12th grade students for hands-on programs about the coastal environment.This year, those educators are taking the show on the road.With support from Bass Pro Shop, Georgia Power and Friends of the UGA Aquarium, Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant staff and volunteers are taking programs into every school in Savannah-Chatham County.A student at Oglethorpe Charter School uses a microscope to identify marine debris during an educational program presented at the school by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant staff and volunteers.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) continues to do all it can to help address a shortage of primary care providers across the state, as eight young students recently graduated from the Pathway to Med School program.The Pathway to Med School program is a 4-week, residential program for undergraduate pre-medical students who attend Georgia institutions and intend on staying in the state to practice primary care.
