County of Meriwether recently issued the following announcement.
Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that his agency working in collaboration with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, (Atlanta Division), the Upson County Sheriff’s Office, Thomaston Police Department, and the Troup County Sheriff’s Office did conduct an undercover narcotics investigation which resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of illegal narcotics, (Fentanyl Pills). This operation also resulted in one arrest.
“On December 3rd, 2021, our narcotics agent along with agents from Upson County Sheriff's Office, City of Thomaston Police Department, Troup County Sheriff's Office, and agents with the Postal Inspection Service (Atlanta Division) conducted a joint undercover narcotics investigation in the 1000 block of Ellis Road, Meriwether County, Ga. The undercover operation resulted in the recovery of four ounces of suspected Fentanyl Pill’s which were in the possession of Selena Fay Mitchell, W/F, 29 years of age, of Ellis Road, Hogansville, Ga. Mitchell was transported to the Meriwether County Jail and charged with the offense of V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Schedule II Drug with Intent to Distribute. Mitchell also had outstanding warrants for her arrest out of Coweta County.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
On December 6, 2021, Mitchell posted a $10,000.00 bond on the narcotics charges related to this case investigation and was transferred to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for her outstanding charges in that jurisdiction.
“I appreciate all agencies working together collaboratively to get these drugs off our streets. All jurisdictions are dealing with overdose cases, especially those involving Fentanyl. These drugs are not only dangerous to users but are hazardous to anyone that has incidental contact with this very dangerous drug. I am very glad that this substantial quantity of illegal narcotics was taken out of circulation. This is an on-going active investigation.” Sheriff Smith advised.
