Cancer Treatment Centers of America Receives 2021 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award®

Award

Cancer Treatment Centers of America Atlanta recently issued the following announcement.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) is pleased to announce its hospitals in Atlanta and Chicago have been named 2021 Guardian of Excellence Award® winners by Press Ganey, the national leader in healthcare consumer and workforce engagement. Press Ganey recognizes CTCA® as a top-performing healthcare organization, with its hospital in Georgia being one of two in the state and its hospital in Illinois being one of five in the state, that achieved the 95th percentile or above for performance in patient experience.

The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award® is a preeminent, competitive achievement for leading healthcare organizations. Presented annually, the award applauds hospitals and health systems that consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients.

“Press Ganey is honored to recognize multiple CTCA hospitals among the nation’s leaders in patient experience,” said Patrick T. Ryan, chairman and chief executive officer, Press Ganey. “This award reflects an unwavering commitment to earn the trust and loyalty of patients throughout unimaginable challenges. We are humbled by CTCA’s incredible efforts, and their ability to adapt to imperatives of COVID-19 on top of the increasing demand for consumerism in healthcare.”

The CTCA Atlanta and Chicago teams initiated a number of best practices, which were instrumental in the hospitals achieving consistently sustained performance within the top five percent of all Press Ganey clients in the category of patient experience based on inpatient HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey results. These initiatives included monthly patient satisfaction meetings to review patient comments and develop action plans to address opportunities for improvement. Additionally, the teams implemented a cadence of follow up phone calls from leadership with patients and caregivers to address survey comments, utilization of technology to improve patient communication and engagement, hourly rounding by nursing staff and daily leader rounding, which allowed for real-time issue resolution and enhanced communication between departments.

“This recognition reflects our dedication to not only delivering highly skilled patient-centered oncology care across the cancer care continuum, but also the commitment of our employees who worked tirelessly throughout a chaotic year to positively impact the lives of everyone we serve,” said Pat Basu, MD, MBA, President and CEO of CTCA. Dr. Basu further explained that Press Ganey’s Guardian of Excellence Award® demonstrates that the Atlanta and Chicago communities can receive top-rated care close to home.
