FOIA Request to Heard County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC Georgia News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Heard County Election Department.
Our request pertains specifically to the methods being used by the department to count votes in the upcoming election. If manual counting is employed, we have also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Heard County Election Department and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency in local government affairs.
