FOIA Request Sent to Carroll County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Carroll County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request, filed by NC Georgia News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about the methods used for counting votes in the upcoming elections.

Specifically, the FOIA request asked for a list of methods being employed by the department to count votes. If any of these methods included manual counting, the department was also asked to provide an estimated number of people who would be working on election night.

As stated in the request, access to such public records is essential for NC Georgia News to fulfill its professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given its role in disseminating information, NC Georgia News has requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.

The Carroll County Election Department has yet to respond publicly or privately to this FOIA request. As we continue our mission of providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we eagerly await their response and will update our readers as soon as more information becomes available.
