FOIA Request Sent to Troup County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Troup County Election Department on October 29, 2024. The request, issued by NC Georgia News, sought details about the methods used by the department to count votes.

NC Georgia News is a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, it requested specific records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.

The information requested included a list of methods employed by the department for vote counting. If any of these methods involved manual counting, NC Georgia News also asked for an estimated number of people who would be working on election night.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we at NC Georgia News believe access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the Troup County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
