FOIA Request Sent to Coweta County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Coweta County Election Department on October 29, 2024. The request, issued by NC Georgia News, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

The FOIA request specifically asks for details about whether the vote counting process is manual or automated. If the ballots are being counted manually, NC Georgia News has requested an estimate of how many people will be working on election night.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such records is crucial. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include disseminating accurate information to the public and holding public institutions accountable.

We have also sought a fee waiver for this request under our status as a media professional. We await a response from the Coweta County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
