A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Meriwether County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request, filed by NC Georgia News, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about the methods used by the department to count votes.
In addition to requesting details about vote counting methods, NC Georgia News also asked for an estimated number of personnel that would be working on election night if the votes were being counted manually.

In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
