FOIA Request to Carroll County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC Georgia News have sent a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was sent to the Carroll County Election Department and is aimed at obtaining information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Specifically, we requested an electronic format list of all candidates including their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. Additionally, we asked for all contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at NC Georgia News to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a positive response from the Carroll County Election Department as this information will significantly aid our mission of keeping the public informed about their local government's activities.
