Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch has expressed his support for the Georgia Assembly's decision to ratify the suspension of motor fuel and diesel taxes. This move is seen as a demonstration of their commitment to alleviating economic pressure during inflation. As reported by the American Automobile Association (AAA), Georgia's current average gas price stands at $3.03, which is below the national average of $3.15.

According to a press release issued by the Georgia General Assembly, Gooch stated: "With record inflation due to current failed White House policies, it is essential that we prioritize providing relief to all Georgians. The passage of HR 3EX underscores our commitment to placing the needs of Georgians at the forefront. I extend my sincere appreciation to Gov. Kemp for his prompt action to address the challenges that come from a rise in inflation and his dedication to prioritizing the well-being of Georgians. I am proud to have supported this resolution and I thank Sen. Bo Hatchett (R–Cornelia) for carrying this important legislation in the Senate."

As reported by Capitol Beat, a tax suspension of 29 cents per gallon has been in effect since September, causing Georgia's average pump price to drop to $2.79. According to AAA, this price ranks as the third-lowest nationwide. Thanks to Georgia's significant budget surplus, the state was able to afford this temporary suspension of gas tax.

The Georgia Recorder quoted Gooch saying in March: "As time goes on and inflation rises, the dollar value of $1 will continue to decrease."

In another press release by the Georgia General Assembly, it was confirmed that Gooch serves as Senate Majority Leader and represents the 51st Senate District which includes Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Union, and Pickens counties along with a portion of White County.
